ILIS VISIT TO THE WEST COAST

The follcwing telegram has been received from the Hon. Mr. T. Mackenzie (Minister of Agriculture ami Tourist Department), I>v the County Chairman, lleofton: — "Expect to pass through llceftori on Saturday afternoon en route for Greyinuuth and Hokitika. 1 regret very much that time will not, permit of my spending an hour ur two in your town and afford me an opportunity of making your acquaintance. —Thos. Mackenzie." The County Chairman sent the following reply:— "Regret your being unable to stay in Reefton, but will meet you at Railway Station on Saturday afternoon next.—K. J. Scantlebury." The Hon. Thomas Mackenzie left Nelson for the West Coast yesterday. While, in the Nelson district the Minister inspected several orchards in the Riwaka and Motueka districts. When interviewed by the fruit growers at Motueka he announced that an arrangement had been made for Mr Hallam, the orchard inspector ,to proceed to Tasmania to collect information re the shipping of fruit to England, On his return lie would superintend the packing and grading of a shipment of 6000 cases front Nelson, the Government guaranteeing the growers one penny per pound.
