THE WESTLAND SEAT.

MR SEDDON'S HOKITIKA COMMITTEE. There was a large attendance of electors at the County Chambers, Hokitika, last evening to form a committee on behalf of \!r I. Y. Seddon for the forthcoming general election. Mr M. Pollock occupied the chair, and in opening the meeting, remarked upon the excellent wayMr Seddon had acquitted himself since entering Parliament. He had entered Parliament an untried man, but proved conclusively by his actions that they had elected the right man to the right place. He had carried out his political pledges, and had done excellent service, and more money was being spent in the district than before. A telegram was received from Mr Seddon, expressing his deepest thanks for the efforts on his behalf. Mr Mandl moved the reception of the telegram, and that Mr Seddon be informed of the successful meeting. Mr Mandl spoke in high praise of the successful work done by their representative in Parliament. The motion was seconded by Mr J. S. Lang and carried. It was resolved that all present form themselves into a central committee with power to add to their number, and I<?6 names were enumerated, representing those present. A strong executive was set up. It was resolved to tender Mr Seddon asocial at Hokitika on his arrival in the district. A ladies' committee was then formed, with a special committee for the social. It was decided to ask country friends to form committees thronriionfc the district. Messrs T. J. Mc.Guigan and J. McFadyen, who were present with many other representatives, expressed their willingness to co-operate, highly praising Mr Seddon for his splendid work in the interests of the district. The chairman made a sympathetic reference to the serious illness of Mrs Seddon, and it wit ••ol.od to convey the good wishes of friends present, and express the hope for her snecdy recovery. Votes of thanks were passed to the country "visitors for attending, and to the Chairman for presiding, and the meeting concluded. The executive mot subsequently, when Mr M. Pollock was appointed chairman, and Mr D. J. Evans hon. secretary. Various matters of detail were arranged, and the meeting adjourned.
