VARISCHETTI’S RESCUE. PERTH, This Day.—Hughes expects to got Varischetti out of the mine by noon. The Italians on the field arc taking stops to recognise the bravery of Hughes, the diver, and a fund lias been opened here. The Adelaide Stock Exchange sent £2O as a slight token of appreciation of the diver’s efforts. SHOW JUDGES. SYDNEY, This Day.—ln .connection with the controversy with New Zealand with regard to the payment of judges, the secretary of the Agricultural Show explains that prior to this year the Society did not pay the expenses of judges. Luxfoni, he says, was not promised expenses and has no justification for claiming them. This year the Society decided to pay judges living outside a 50 mile radius of Sydney. SPOTTED FEVER. MELBOURNE, This Day—The President of the Board of Health states that each case of spotted fever has been isolated as it occurred. The disease may occur sporadically or epidemically. In the cases which had occurred' there was no epidemic and under normal conditions they* were not likely to spread.
