Mr Frank Cook leaves overland tomorrow on a short holiday to the Exhibition City. It is understood that Messrs John Jackson, Alfred Russell, P. J. Bellett and John Kennedy will be candidates at the gorL.icoming Borough Council leections. Mr Stenhouse, who succeeds Mr J. C. Malfroy as Clerk of the Court at Hoki tika, will not arrive until Thursday next. In consequence, Mr Malfroy will not leave Hokitika until Monday, the Bth prox.
During the Masonic gathering in the Town Hall last evening a very pleasing incident occurred, when His Excellency the Governor invested M.W. Bro. J. F. White, Past Grand Senior Warden, with a ‘presentation jewel collar and apron, which had been forwarded from the Brethren of the Wintqn Lodge as a mark of their esteem and high appreciation of his many services' ungrudgingly rendered to the craft while resident in the Winton district.
