NAPIER, March 25.—At the inquest on tho body of George Morgan, who died on Saturday as the result of a coach accident, a verdict of accidental death was returned, no blame being attachable to anyone. THE SEDDONMEMORIAL. WELLINGTON, March 25. At a meeting of the Seddon National Memorial Fund, it was reported that subscriptions to date total £272. A meeting is to be called with the object of setting up a Ladies’ Committee to further the scheme, SERIOUS ACCIDENT. TIMARU, This Day.—Miss Marshall, aged 24, was thrown from a horse at Blue Cliffs on Saturday, and has been unconscious ever since. She sustained injuries to her head. LIQUOR DEPOTS. INVERCARGILL Mar 25. Mr McCarthy S.M., when dealing this morning with two cases of drunk enness at Waikiki, where there are depots said: “I will take this public opportunity of stating that the existence of the depots carrying on this class of trade, without practically any regulation whatever, is a standing menace to tho peace and order of the community.” EGG LAYING COMPETITIONS. CHRISTCHURCH Mar 25. The official report for tho week ending March 22nd of the second egg laying competition at Lincoln College shows that 374 eggs were laid during tho week, bringing the total to date to 5.' ,953. The best totals for tho week are:—M. Blanch (Silver Wyandottes) 23; Williams (Black Orpingtons) 21; The highest totals to date are, M. Blanch (Silver Wyandottes) 1098; J. Ashton (Silver Wyandottes) 858; F. O'Drien (Silver Wyanjflotfjj s) 813; Mrs Gordon (Brown Leghorns) 808.
NAPIER ELECTRIC LIGHTING. NAPIER, March 25 The Napier Borough Council met tonight to consider a report from Mr James Black, A.M.1.C.E., who sumbitted the probable cost of installing a system of electric lighting and traction, and the receipts that might reasonably be expected. The most suitable route for a tramway was described as being from Hastings street to Port Ahuriri. and also to the Hospital and from Clive Square to the Railway Station with a contingent service to Taradale. Tho approximate cost of construction was set down at £77,000 for traction, lighting and power, inclusive oi the Taradale service, and £45,000 exclusive of that service. For the lighting scheme only the estimate was £12,500. The estimated revenue in the -econd year was £II,BOO, £7600 and £3,300 respectively for the three schemes—giving an approximate net profit of £I6OO, £730, and £SOO respectively. The following motion was passed : “That it be notified that
it is the intention of the >-ouncil of the Borough of Napier to apply for an order in Council authorising the installation of an electric tramway to be run on the linos of Mr Black’s report; and, further, that the Hawke’s Bay Council, the Tara dale Town Board, and the Whareomaraenui Reclamation Syndicate be informed what steps the Council are taking so that they also may take the necessary steps in case i tis wished to extend the trams from the Borough to Taradale.”
