THE MOSQUITO DREDGES.

Since the dredging boom lias fizzled out, all the back gullies and flats at Nobles have been quite deserted, with an occasion's! hntfer here and there. The two Mosquito dredges, which went into liquidation about two years ago. and sold in the interval to private parties, are all that remain of the dredging boom. They have started to work again under the new ownership, and. I am glad to say. are likelv to prove a success to the new shareholders.

The No. 2, which was built about the middle of the claim, started to work up stream, but not meeting with success, went into liquidation, although those who know the ground maintain that they left the run of gold inside of them in the terrace. The drcdgemnstcr was of the same opinion at the time, but the ground being deeper lie said he could not work it without lengthening the elevator and ladder. The new owners, however, decided to turn the dredge down stream to where she was at first, and started to work the lower end of the claim first. They had considerable difficulties to contend with in opening out. when they got down to where the dredge first started. They have.overcome them all, and are now in a fairway of being rewarded for their outlay and trouble. -As they are all working shareholders and looked upon as some of the best dredgemen on the Coast, thev will no doubt work the claim economically and to (lie best advantage. They have one of the best dredges' on the West Coast. The No 1 dredece, which was bought by Mr Cowie. of Greenstone, is undergoing preliminary repairs prior to starting, when it is h.iiied she will soon regain her former prestige as a nohl producer.
