THE UNITED CRICKET CLUB BANQUET.

Tho above Club held a banquet in the Union Hotel on Saturday evening to wind up the season, and also for thd (purpose of presenting the trophies won by members. About 56 were present and Mr M. Johnson occupied the chair.

The tables were very tastefully laid and full justice was done to tho good things provided. Tho toast of the evening was the

“ United Cricket Club,” proposed by Mr M. Johnson, who complimented tho Club on tho success achieved during the season, by winning the West, Coast. Juvjfior Championship, having only one defeat registered against them. Mr Powell (captain) and Mr Mclntosh responded. The presentation of trophies then took place, tho trophy for. best lintting going to Mr Malojie, best travelling halting average Mr I’mvell, best bowling average Mr Mclntosh, most improved player during season Air Casey, most consistent batter Air O'Reilly.

Messrs Rnndio and Dun ford congratulated the loam on its success, and hoped (o see them in the senior grade next year. Tlie following toasts were also duly proposed and responded to:—Kindred Sports. West Const Cricket Associabin, Mawhera Cricket Club, The Ladies, Press, Our Host, and (he Captain of tho U.O.C.

Tiio following gentlemen ennf diluted songs—Messrs Fraser, Powell. Cinder and Morris ; recitations by Messrs Randle and J. Keating. A word of praise is due to Mr T. Shannahnn for the artistic manner in which the tables wore spread with the good things, also to Mr O. Perntti for Ins excellent playing of the accompaniments.
