KIERAN LEAVES FOR HOME. LONDON, October 2. The London swimmers farowelled Kieran at the Frascatis Restaurant: 200 were presented. ' '

Kieran has been succesful in his; efforts in England. This month at Belfast he won a half-mile race in llmin"2_l-ssec, and at Redcliffe he won a 300 yards race in 3min 32sec-both speedy performances Writing to a friend in Sydney by;*-recent mail, Mr Mitchell, who is Kieran«• friend, and adriser, had the followingJ-ttf say:— "Just a few hurrdei lines before -our departure for Sweden. Kicrnan has' arrived at last. His quarter and half-mlkc swims wer« worth goin" round the wort* to see. In the quarter he simply flew throuch the water. The laps were 110 yards-long. and turning on * rope. The water was tideless (an artificial lake), but a strong (Wind was blowing across the swimmers. .The time (smin 22scc) is wondorul under thejcircumstances. Billington swam well, but was out classed. Nuttall and Jarvis both statP d to me that Kieran is the beslaver seen in the water here. In the half-mile, to-day everybody voted it a good things for Billington. 'He had been at Leicester for some time past training under Jarvds, and in his trials put up some wondeunV. tintes. He swam a great race, but Kieran-was in front all the time and won by 19scc- Kieran's time was llmin 28scc—a record, of rourse—as there was a slight turn, which bothered him. He will have a 'go lat some of the records before returning,^to convince some of the unbelievers- that the timekeeper in Australia knows ai little about their business."
