Halley's comet is now plainly visible in Co'lingwood, and may be seeu any morning from about four till after five o'clock, in the eastern sky, immediately below Venus, which is a particularly bright morning star at present. Yesterday morning about five o'clock a splendid observation of the comet was obtained iu a clear sky. The comet will gradually become brighter up to about the 19th May. . For Influenza take Woods' Great Peppermint Cure. Never fails. is 6d and 2s 6d,

Siit.'ngs of the local Courts will be held ou Thursday next, 26th instant. There is quite a respectable amount of civil business ou the cause list, and some formal applications for the Warden to deal with. The local trading steamers have " struck tvouble" during the last week or so, owing chiefly to the strong winds —almost gales —and low tides. The Lady Barkly especially has been unfortunate. Arriving- late on .Thursday night with a heavy gale blowing, she ran into the lower whaif and splintered some of the stringers and decking. On her return trip on Saturday a westerly gale prevented her reaching Col'lingwood, and she returned to Nelson from Waitapu. At Nelson she again came into contact with the wharf, and such damage resulted that she has since had to lay up for repairs and is not due here again umil Saturday. The Wairoa when leaving port on Monday night, broLe her main shaft and lost her propeller while going over the falls of the river. She was towed back to Ihe wharf by Stallard's yacht, and the propeller was recovered at low water. The shaft was temporarily repaired, and the steamer left for Nelson direct yesterday morning, where she arrived last r.ight, and is now being fitted with a new shaft. Passengers and the travelling public are suffering considerable inconvenience by this unusual dislocation of local Iramc. For Children's Hacking Cough at night, Woods' Great Peppermint Cure, r.s 6d and 2s 6d. There seems a probability of the local Medical Association being able to secure the services of another medical, man for the County. The Chairman oi the Association, Mr G. H. Allan, (who is at present in Nelson) is endeavouring to arrange for Dr W. H. Pettitt to take up the practice temporarily, with the prospect of getting a young doctor to take up permanent residence here in the course of a few months. The tailor was ill with a dangerous chill, And his breath came in fluttering " pants." His so they said, just huug by a " thread," For the doctor had murmured '"' no chance." No words can ex-"press" his aw.'ul distress, But it " seems" that he put up a ight; He took the thing sure, Woods' Peppermint Cure, ." Sew," " needless" to say, he got right. The annual Show of ,the Aorere Flower and Produce Society will be held at the Aorere Central Hall on Saturday next, 23rd April. The Committee has secured the services of competent judges for the various classes of exnibits, and are. very assiduous in their efforts to make the Show a success. A special meeting of the Nelson Hospital and Cnaritable Aid Board was held at Nelson last night, for the purpose of dealing with special business. This county's representative is attending the meeting. The; Land and Income Tax Department gives notice that returns of land must be furnished not later thau Ist May. For Chronic Che..t Complaints, Woods ureat Peppermint Cure, is 6d and 2s 6d.
