Girl Gourmands.

The -wealthy American girl entertains her young women friends with a sumptuousness which Is somewhat alarming to a modest European. A party of slender sylphs will sit down at 1 o'clock in the day and consume a meal which would make an alderman green with envy. -" I doubt, indeed," says Miss Ella Hepworth Dixon, "If he could eat as much, or care to sip so many kind of wines and liqueurs, or finish up with such quantities of ice cream, bon-bons, and creme-tde-menthe. Our aldermen, indeed, would be fairly bewildered by the elegancie3 of the feast ; the white satin and Venetian point lace tablecloths, the abundance of long-stalked roses, the shaded lights at midday, the priceless porcelain and Georgian silver, the meats tied up with coloured ribbons, the sweets tinted to match, and I know not what frivolities of the kitchen. •And the talk is sometimes as good as the fare, if not at a ' buds' * party, at any rate at those other feminine feasts at which married women and more mature spinsters meet.
