THE LATE ACCIDENT.
Up to Tuesday last the boisterous and wet weather prevented any systematic search being made for the body of the unfortunate j-oung man Solly who was drowned in the Aorere River on the previous Wednesday, although a number of men waited about for an opportunity of doing something. On Tuesday, however, the weather moderated somewhat and several boats and canoes were manned and the river dragged with the result that in a few hours the remaining portion of the waggon was found, within a few chains of where the accident occurred. About a dozen of the deceased’s friends from Takaka came up to assist in the search, and worked strenuously in their labour of love, even carting up a suitable boat from Port for use on the river. Yesterday morning again the search was continued and resulted in the finding of the body, which was convoyed to Takaka this morning for burial. [A report of the inquest will be found elsewhere in this issue.] We learn that deceased’s life was insured in the Government Office for £2OO.
