AORERE WORKS COMMITTEE.
The Committee met on Saturday evening last, all Crs being present. Minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. Outward correspondence read and approved. Chairman reported tlr&t he and Cr Riley had inspected road at Aorere above Bainham, and they had decided to put on four day men for one month to repair portion of the road, and call tenders for gravelling other portions. They had also visited Rocky River Track and had . decided to put on two men for three weeks to put the road in passable order. TENDERS Were received and dealt with as under: Gravelling, Parapara Road (25cbs.) J. Richards ... £T 15s pr ch. This was the only tender, and it was accepted. Contract No 1. Silverstream. Grant and S. D. Lash ... £‘J7 Os 01. Bond Contract No 2. Silverstream. Grant and Lash ... £179 Os Od. Both the above tenders were considered by the members as unreasonably high, and) fts no' other tenders were received, the question of letting the contracts was deferred for a month, until the weather is more favourable. CORRESPONDENCE. From F. Skilton asking for extension of time for one month for comp'etion of Contract No 2, Bonny Doon Road. —The Clerk had replied under instructions from Chairman and Cr Riley that the request would he granted if Skilton would pay a proportionate share of the inspector’s salary for the extra time. From Exton and Marshall, contractors foV No. I Contract, Bonny Doon Road, ihaking a similar request.—The Clerk had replied to the same effect as in the previous case. It was resolved that if contractors did nbt agree to this p>ropo u.l (the Committee paying one-third of the Inspector’s salary) the usual fine for non comjdetion be
imposed. From County Clerk enclosing several cheques for progress payment on various works, and giving statement of Committee’s funds; also enclosing reply from Public Works Department, to the effect that the Committee’s request for a grant for opening up a track to Boulder Lake had been referred to the Lands and Survey Department, from where a reply would he received in due course. From S. J. Dew, Receiver Gold Revenue, covering statement of goldfields revenue of the Riding for quarters ending March and June, 1897, viz: March quarter —-£139 Us Gil; June quarter—£*2o6 Bs.—The Clerk said about £274 would come to the Riding for the half year after the usual deductions. (The amount collected in the Takaka Riding jor the same period (half-year) was £2O 55.) An account for 6s for removing a log at Parapara Forks crossing was passed j„r payment, and the Committee adjourned.
