The Feilding Star Orona and Kiwitea Counties’ Gazette WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 1934 THE MUNICIPAL BATHS
Swimming as a pastime, as ail exercise and as a popular sport iu Feilding' wa« again demonstrated in a twofold manner last night at the final carnival of 1934 in the Muunici]«il Baths not only by the very big crowd of spectators, hut by the record number of entries. One city and five towns were represented h' competitor's, which f’a.ct must he taken as an exceptional tribute to Feilding’s Club and its organisation. As the Mayor of Feilding was present and s-alw for himself the attractiveness of tlie game and the crowded state of the limited spa-ce, we- would suggest to Mr Taylor that he should mark his Mayoral regime by in a,king the hath and its accommodation adequate for the town and the sport. The swimming area at present is only 25 yards long. It should he classic. length—33 1/3 yards. If it were also made 25 yards wide, then it would be ideal for races and for the training of more Feilding champions. The soa.tiup- accommodation could also- be built up. These improvements could he undertaken during the coming winter' and we feel Burs the enthusiastic executive of the Swimming Club would help the Borough Council in effecting the changes at a minimum cost to ratepayers.
