ENGI XE E K ’ S R EPO RT OX THE PAST MONTH - This afternoon the ManawatuOroua Electric Poweli Board held its monthly meeting in Palmerston at which Engineer Waters presented the following- reporr :—- WORK OX TAXES During- the month the linesmen were engaged on maintenance work at Dalrymple’s line, Rongotea, T.ongburn, Robert’s line, Tiritea, Taikorea, Aokautero, Colyton, 1 Tal - combe, Makino and Mount Biggs areas. Tn Scott’s road, owing- to abnormal number of broken wires on 3300 volts, the last section, which is exposed to gales was changed from copper to Xo. 6 steel wire and the low tension wires changed to larger size. LIGHTNING DAMAGE During the month we had lightning arresters on the Kimbolton feeder shattered with severe strokes | of lightning, while a flash-over on the transformers at the Fell ding freezing works damaged the porcelain 11,000 volt bushes, which had to be replaced. Several meters were damaged by lightning and had been changed. To enable the Public Works Department to effect, repairs to Hit t 10.000 volt lines at Halcombe, Tokorangi road, our 3300 volt lines had to be lowered and subsequently replaced. \ five chain low tension extension to a new house, on Reid’s track was erected and maintenance work *o services at Tokarangi and Taomii effected. DAYLIGHT SAVING As this had finished during the past month, all the time switches (582 of them) had to be reset to new time. A further shipment of 20 switches has arrived, which enables us to complete the installation of one in every household water heater, and spares to enable switches to be changed. A fair number of switches had to bo changed and returned to test room as clocks had stopped. W hen reoiled and regulated the rare reissued. FFREEZING WORKS Messrs Borthwick and Sons have commenced the installation, for the

electrification of their works and the motors an dplant are expected very shortly. The trivector metering equipment for this job is due to land this month. On going closely into the load for the works it, was found that the present bank of transformers supplying* the works will not bo large enough and will have to be doubled in size. NEW CONSUMERS The following- new consumers were given a supply during the month: Lighting- and heating 4, one range, one water heater and 32 additions and alterations f existing installations. Total 38.
