SHIPMENT TO WELLINGTON FOUR TUANSFORMERS (Per Press Association; Auckland. Jan. 11. Four huge transformers, each weighing altout 21 tons, and formerly in the Penrose sub-station, will be shippe-l from Auckland by tin* Port. Waikato next week to Wellington for installation at tlie Moiling sub-sta-tion at Lower Ilutt. Two of tlie transformers have already been transported from Penrose to Queen's Wharf, one on Monday and tlie second on Tuesday, and the remaining two will lie brought to tlie city this morning and to-morrow. Tlie transformers have to lie carried on a 80-ton trailer, drawn by a steam roller, and tlie trip from Penrose takes alKiut 44 hours. Accordingly tlie transportation is carried out early in tlie morning when tlie roads are comparatively free of traffic. The transformers were tlie first to Ik- installed at Penrose and were used to "step down” power from Horahora from fi(UKMI to fidOO volts. They will remain on tlie wharf near tlie Admiralty launch steps until they can Ik- placed on board the Port Waikato.
