OVER £7OO STOLEN
LABOUR DEPT., AUCKLAND GOVERNMENT FUNDS OFFICIAL UNDER SUSPICION ARREST WARRANT ISSUED (Per Press Association). Auckland January 12. The theft of over £7OO of Goverfnnuint funds on account of the Labour Department in Auckland was discovered when tlie office of the department reopened after the Christ mas and New Year holidays. It is stated that an official of the department presented a cheque for over £7OO at the bank just before the official Christmas vacation. It was riot until after the holidays that i r was discovered that an unauthorised sum had been drawn from the account. Tlie official under suspicion has not reported iV>r duty since the resumption of work after the holidays and he is believed fo have left the country’.
