PROTESTS IN CANADA IMPOUNDING URGED SHIPMENT ON THE WAY Calgary, Jan. 11 ; The impounding of 250,000 Founds of New Zealaml butter, now en route to Canada., and tlie prevention ot further imports was urged upon the executive of the United Farmers of Alberta, meeting to-day m a telegram from an unknown souree. Tire executive declined to take action for t'he present. The vice-president, Air Norman Priestlv. said that information tb hand indicated that the butter shipment was due to reach the Pacific coast on January 27, and that an Albert!) company had purchased a large quantity of it. GOVERNED BY TREATY ANY RESTRICTIVE AIEASTTItES Ottawa, Jan. 11 In connection with the Calgary report suggesting the impounding of New Zealand butter, it Is stated here that Canada Inis a trade agreement with New Zealand and any measures taken to restrict the shipment of butter to Canada would have to he in accord with the terms of that treaty. Officials of the Dominion Government hove not heard of a proposal to impound a special shipment 1 of any commodity. and it is not known what is the authority for such action.
