BRITISH INDUSTRY
SUCCESSES IN STRUGGLE RADIO FORGES AHEAD (Petr Pres« Association). Wellington, On. 2. While agreeing that British trado was still far from being in a prosperous condition, New Zealand business men who returned in the liner Remuera, which arrived from I.ondon to-day were unanimously of the opinion tha certain industries were recovering fast and that some—notably radio manufacturing—were forging ahead. They were impressed with the success of the Conversion Loan, the interest taken in the Ottawa Conference, and Britain’s efforts to reduce industrial costs.
In the opinion of Mr H. S. Hart, of Wellington, who hasreturned after a six months’ business trip to England, British commercial men have looked more to Ottawa than has been the case with any of the Dominions. “Any suggestion of lack of genuine Imperial outlook has become a thing of the past,” he said. “Ottawa was boomed tremendously in England, where the feeling today is that the Dominions must do more for British jiroducers ihan they have- done in the past It is felt also that the mere lowering of tariffs does not constitute a full answer in return for what Britain ha given the Dominions.”
