REQUEST FOR REMISSION COULD NOT BE GRANTED (Per Press Association.) Wellington, August 11The request that the payment of the unemployment levy l>y relief workers should be waived on the ground of hard-hip was made to the Acting-Minister of Employment. Hon* A Hamilton, by a rel ef workers’ deputation. Tho Minister had to confess that the remis-ion of the levy was not the v matter it might appear. To grant the deputation's request would itself mean decreasing the relief workers’ fund by £ ICO,(XX) or more. An amendment of the Act would bo necessary to give effect to tlie depurequest.
