Wellington, Aug. 11. “If young men will indulge in tlie pastime of throwing stones at men who are doing their duty they must be punished,” said the Chief Justice. Sir Michael M.vers, in dismissing the appeal of 'William Pearce against a sentence of six months’ imprisonment imposed upon him by Mr. E. l’age, S.M., on a charge of being a rogue and a vagabond, in tiiat he was found on the night of May 11 in t>osscssion of an offensive weapon, a stone, with felonious intent. Tlie hearing of the appeal took the form fo a re-trial.
