WAIRARAPA RACING CLUB lIOW IT HAS FARED Carterton, Aug. S. The annual report of the Wairarapa Racing Club states that the club’s New Year meeting was very successful, a satisfactory profit being- made, but the Easter meeting showed a. loss, all receipts falling off considerably. This can be attributed to the prevailing conditions, and to the fact that Easter, coming early, clashed with the Wellington meeting. HUNT MEETING REVIVED MANAWATU GETS A DATE Palmerston, Aug. 8. The Mauawatu Hunt Club has been granted September 3 for its revived annual meeting at Avapuni. tire Racing Club having allotted its j 932-33 permit to the sister club. THE MELBOURNE CUP FAVOURITES Ilir.ee horses were quoted on Friday a.s being isolated favourites for the Melbourne Cup—Kuvera, Middle

Watch and The JTLHmior. What are their titles to this eminence? asks lie Wellington Post. Kuvera is widely conceded to be Australia’s best two year old, and his chances in the A.J.C. Derby are regarded as being very bright. It is generally believed that lie will stay, and there is ample precedent for his winning the Cup at three years. Middle Watch, rising, four years, won dual classic Jivvjjiburs in the autumn, and this pbtfonuance, backed by the fax:t that S%. Simon is close up on both sides of his pedigree, gives some assurance that two miles will be well compass. 'File Dimmer Bound to be an early selection, in ...view of his remarkable series last year in annexing Autumn Stakes, Sydney Cumberland Stakes, and A.J.C. Plate in succession at the A .J.C. autumn meeting. 'Flic was sired, by Spearhead from After (Mow, also • the dam of Epilogue, and he is a great stayer. After Glow is now at the Westmere Stud, and with her she brought a filly fohl, a full sister to The Dimmer, and who ig now owned by a Taupiri sportsman.

LADY QUEX IN WORK After an absence of three months Lady Qucx has made her reappearance on the New Plymouth track. She was in rather a bad way alter racing at Awapuni the second day, and at one stage it was feared that her racing days might.be over. However, she boro a very bright look the other morning, and though only given light work she moved very freely. She is now in. her seventh year, but taking a line through her form last season there-should be good races for her again this season. After her line-- showing Mr .the Easter Handicap at Ellerslie there would seem every probability of her being tried over a middle distance. NOTES ANI) COMMENTS
