ECONOMIC REPORTS
Due Very Shortly NO CLASH OF ISSUES EXCHANGE RATE QUESTION IN HANDS OF THE BANKS PRTME MINISTER’S STATEMENT (Pe* Pres® Association). Wellington, February 1-5. Regarding the two Economic Commissions, Premier Forbes says there i s no clash of 1 unctions. Tlu‘economists’ committee arose out of the exchange and it would take into consideration the general economic position of Xew Zealand, its effect on the budgetary position and the reaction of international finance upon Xew Zealand's affairs. ‘ They will frame their report on the facts and figures already available and there will be no necessity to take evidence. But the Royal Commission on national economy lu»s a far longer task and its detailed report on economies will not be available for possibly three months. The Kconomists’ Committee, jiuluiiiff by Australian experience, where a similar committee reported in days, should make its recommend a tions available to tlie Government in a very short time. Tnc exchange and budgetary questions wcie only part, of the matter for investigation. Exchange is no t . tlie main puipose for consideration, by the committee but that question must come under review in relation to the whole subject of the country’s economic pos: tioii.”
