The polling that brings to a conclusion the lightning campaign oi three weeks iii the general elections of rhe Free State takes place in li e South () f Ireland tomorrow. li has been a strenuous a nd hitter time it r the 11>4- candidates and particularly for the two leading protagonist, Premier Cosgrove, head o.f the Government Party, and De Valera, Chief of the Republicans, who are ancient political enemies. Mr Cosgrove, who hoMs the post-war record of eight years of continuity in office, has consistently stood ior friendship. with Britain, for both material and national safety reasons. Mi* De Valera, of Spanish extraction has persistently waged war against Britain and all things British. Tt is sign'fii. nt 1 lint in the- present campaign De Valera has toned down his anti-British bitterness in orflev to strengthen Ids hid for power and to make good hie; claim that his party ran rule Ebii,Vhern Irelahid hotter than the Cosgrave Party, which it should he remembered has brought peace and prosperity to the Free Stale.
