NEW GOVERNOR-GENERAL
RECEPTION AT TOWN HALL fPer Pres s Association* Wellington, March 20. There was a brilliant sefene at the Town Hall to-night when tlie Gov-ernor-General and Lady Uledisloe were accorded a civic welcome by the city of Wellington and local public IkhHos and presented with an illuminated address. The distinguished guests received an enthusiastic reception from the gathering of people which filled all tlie available accomodation long before tlie commencement of tlie programme. The proceedings were only partly formal, the speeches being intersjiersed with musical items-. The Hon. G. W. Forbes was the speaker on behalf of the Government. and said the people wished his Excellency to enjoy himself and would be pleased to see him on the field of sport. Th e Chief Justice, Kir Michael Myers, also spoke. Tli e Mayor of Wellington (Mr G. A. Troup) read a formal address on behalf of tlio local bodies prefacing it with a short speech. After returning thanks for the welcome Lord Bledisloe 'said he and Lady Bledisloe intend to take a fill! part in tlie social ad recreational side of Hf e in New Zealand. Regarding farming, lie wanted to make it perfectly clear that jha did not come to this country with tlie idea that lie was going to teach the people on the land anything. ll e was not a pundit and he cam© to learn. Conditions bc’V dffered very much from those of tlio Old Country. He praised the value and stressed th e importance of agriculture to all. lie was prepared to foster in any way lie could th c industrial activities of the country.
