AOUAXGI BRIDGE The Public Works Deiiartment wrote seating an officer of the Department would visit Feilding next week and would make survey of the land for the approaches to the new bridge. JOHNSTON PARK FOOTBALL GROUND The Hastings Rugby' Sub-Union wrote seeking information on the use of Johnston Park for football grounds.—The Clerk was asked to give th e neessary information MAIN HIGHWAYS Otaliulni Borough Council wrote with reference to securing permanent relief for those boroughs which had been laid down permanent roads before the Main Highways Board was authorised to expend subsidies on highways. Otahuhu suggested laying the matter before Parliament and suggested machinery for dealing with the claims of each local body vitally concerned.-—The Mayor said the matter had been before the Council for tlq. past three years, and tlie Council had made representations lo Ministers of the Crown. The chief objection made to Feilding was that the payment would he retrospective, and this the Highways Board was opposed to. H e thought the Otahuhu proposal was a good one, though lie suggested it might be referred to the Finance Committee iu tli e meantime. Cr Fair proposed that the letter be referred to th e Finance Committee for consideration and report to the next meeting of the Council. Seconded by' Cr. MeCorkindale and agreed to. Tilt no A TERRACE Ratepayers of Tiritoa terrace wrote asking for an additional light on a dark place on the street.— The Mayor said th e length of road in question was about 10 chains with four residence's) and tlie amount involved was £H 12s tid per annum. For safety of traffic generally he was not sure what view tli e Council would take. Cr. Cor pc said th e road was very dark and lie thought there should be a light there. Cr Guy supposed only tli e residents used the road. Cr Corpe said others also used it. The Mayor said personally he thought otiier parts of the borough needed liglit lS more than this, and mentioned several streets. On the motion of Cr Fair, the request was referred to tli e Street Lighting Committee for report. Seconded by the' Mayor and agreed to. GIE,SEN’S ROAD Ratepayers of Giesen’s road and Glasgow terrace forwarded a letter asking for a footpath, pointing out that tli e road was used largely for cattle and was therefore dangerous. Th e petitioners suggested the work might be provided for on next year’s estimates.—The Mayor proposed that the letter be referred to the works Committee and the Finaue e Committee for consideration with next year’s estimates.—Agreed to.

East street had 40 chains which required to be completed with footpath, and that street was a stoek route with vengeuce. It was a question of finance. This year the Council had

received a substantial sum form miscellaneous sources, but they could not hope to receive this next year. It hail been suggested to him that th e Council might raise a loan of £2OOO or so to complete these paths. He might consider this if it Could be done wihout increasing the charges .on tli e Council, if the money could b e saved in other ways. But he was very loath to increasing the public debt of the borough. That no further action be> taken with regard to rounding Beattie street corner, and that the owner of the property, Mr A. J. Trevenn, be given notice under Section 205 (c) of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1920, tc lower tlie hedge at tlie corner. ABATTOIR MANAGER’S REPORT During tlici month of February, 1930, the folowing stock were dealt with at tlie municipal abattoir: 35 cows ,10 oxen, 54 heifers, 24 bulls, 342 sheep, 34 iambs, 082 pigs, and 5 vealers. Fees amounted fo £l6-5 6s 2d as compared with £256 7s 2d for the corresponding month of last year, a decrease, of £9l Is. All work lias proceeded (satisfactorily during the month. Received.
