A group of Chicago’s wealthiest citizens, disturbed by the comment that s being made all over the world on the seriousness of Chicago’s financial flight, has agreed to raise amongst themselves 30 million dollars as a temporary loan, to the city, exclusively for the purpose of paying the wages of municipal employees, purchasing coal supplies for the hospitals, public institutions and maintailing other absolutely essential services.
The City Council made an appeal to this group for 50 million dollars but the financiers disallowed the request for (he larger, sum.
