WESTPORT MINE RETURNS (Per Press Association). Dunedin, Dee. J. With tho object of showing the value of the coal industry, Mr W. A Elay ell, general manager of the Westport Coal Company, .lias prepared some interesting figures. These figures, which show that large sums of money were distributed during the year as the result of the company’s operations, are as follows: Output of'company’s mines, 391,4:25 tons; amount paid in wages, £25,917 17s 6cT; paid •to ; Government or, account of railway haulage at Westport, royalties, rates and taxes,' £116,148 4s sd: paid ... in steamer freights, £15,223.
