AEROPLANE’S GOOD WORE

Aeroplanes 'are Yrcquiitly blamed for frightening cattle and other animals, but there are occasions when aircraft serve useful purposes. A Pa. patoctoo farmer, Air Orr, is one who is rather peased that a De Havilland Moth aeroplane belonging to tho Auckland Aero Club flew over his property early yesterday morning, because tho life of one his valuable cows was saved through the action oil’ the pilot. About 5 o'clock in the morning Major G. A. C. Cow per was aloft with a p.upi ll member of tlie club when he noticed, one of Mir Orr’s cows in distress in tho paddock below'. The pilot saw the cow stretched out on the ground near the dividing fence, and observed by the tracks the aniinad had made in the long grass that it was ill. So lie decided to descend and alighted in the paddock alongside the cow. Major Cowper found tlie animal to bo in agony, and walked to Air Orr’si residence. Mr Orr happened to be milking, at the time Rut lie left the shed and accompanied the pilot to the paddock. Mr Orr discovered that the animal had developed milk fever. It had calved only the night before. The cow, which was a magnificent beast, soon revived when the proper remedies had 'bee-u applied. Afr Orr was profuse in his thanks to Major Onvper, and stated that he undoubtedly saved the life of the cow, which would have died had it been left very much longer.
