THOSE FOOTBALL ACCIDENTS
Accidents on the football fields are becoming all too common. They are not confined fo Feihlitig and the Mnnawatu, hut are occurring every Saturday all over the Dominion. Should they he oliieially taken notice of by the ruling authorities? We think Ihe referees of both islands are tin 1 men who should lie asked to furnish reports upon the mailer, for the accidents are more frequently reported nowadays than rough play incidents. The accidents are already move frequent than in any previous aason. We are wondering whether a primary cause of these mishaps D the failure of so many ol the players of nil grades to get into form and to keep fit for the fast open games the times demand. AV hen a player is lit and in condition lie can lake much harder knocks and can play a keener game than when he is out of condition and only half lit. Tar too many of our players are taking the gaum casually. To keep on the halt and maintain, a lending position they must train, get their wind and keep lit: then they will reduce the risk of aecilcnts to the necessary minimum. Those weekly reports of accidents are apt to give our vigorous winter paslinn- Ihe bad name it by no means deserves.
