Armstrong of 12Sy llcmuera Road, and that lie had boon appointed organist at tlm De Luxe Theatre, Wellington, Gerald Rutherford (23), was arrested by Do tcctivc Sergeant Is.scll, of Newton, and appeared at the Police Court in Auckland. "There are several 'other circumstances that require investigation and .task for a remand until September l-i,” said Chief ' Detective Cummings. Tlic remand was granted, there being no application for bail by Rutheriord. However, some time later, the P.c-V. Mr Drummond, of St, Thomas’ Anglican Church, Freeman’s Hay. asked that accused bo allowed bail. "He is to be' married in a day or so, ’ said Air Drummond. "Do you Jvi low Ill's condition” asked Air Hunt. "‘The police are going to have' him medically examined.” The minister then whispered a few words to the Magistrate. "I won't grant -him hail vet,” said Air Hunt. "We will see what lie looks like tp-morrbw, alter we receive the doctor’s report. Until then lie can remain in custody.” Accused’s future wile, and two friends, who were, at the rear of the Court, left the. building, while Rutherford was taken away with the other prisoners to Mount Eden.
