POWER BOARD

't OPERATIONS LAST MONTH * in THU feilding DI,STUICT the ENGINEER'S RETORT The monthly meeting of the Mauu-walu-Oroua Power Board was held yesterday afternoon when. Mr J. A. Xiuili, M.P.. presided over Sir James Wilson, Messrs J. Linklater, M.P., Small, Hodgens, McLean, MeElroy, Vincent, Tingcy, Arbon, Hunt and Eliott. REVIEW OF WORK DONE. The report of the chief engineer, Mr W. A. Waters, submitted to the Board stated - During the month the extension line north of Apiti was completed, and the gang employed on this work was then transferred to Coulter’s Line, Kiwitea, where a length of one and three-quarter miles of line was erected and supply gvien to the consumers on the roqd. This gang has now been transferred to Kangiwahia. where they are erecting lines to supply the Marshall and Otara settlements. Another gang has been employed on the Stanway road and this will be livened up at an early date. The erection of the 3300 volt line on Fox ton line is well forward and the gang is now erecting the poleson Riverbed road towards Tangimoana; while two other gangs have been fully occupied during the month erecting transformers and connecting up fresh customers.

SHORTAGE OF POLES.

With tiie extensions, which we

have still to do such as Otara, Spur road. Kakariki, etc., we are 'getting short of Mo ft poles. Members will remember that the original contract was over supplied to the extent of about 1200 poles at original contract rates and we have only 150 in stock at the. Ida loom be dump and probably 50 at other stations. We will have to go into the matter, this week, of further supplies of poles. A .new type of pole, which is made of expanded steel is being used extensively by many boards in the youth Island. I propose to go into the merits of these steel' poles, as compared with ironbark. before deciding on calling

fur tenders for fresh supplies. In regard to the Rangiwahiu-Ojaru line, a meeting was held there during (he month when Mr McLean and myself met the settlers. A further load of three ranges was promised and

satisfactory arrangements made with regard to soldier settlers. As a result the work of building the lines is being pushed on as fast as possible, but, unfortunately, the erection of the poles is held up in one farmer’s paddock until lambing is finished.
