From the Te Kuiti Borough Council, inviting Flic county to he represented a deputation to the Govern - liient to put bclore it the question for rating and other problems arising front native lands. From the Tauranga County Council, asking for support of a resolution calling on the Government to introduce legislation providing that the whole of the cost ol road maintenance be paid by the Main Highways Board, thus leaving the county rates available for maintenance of hv-roads.- The Council was of the opinion that there were better ways of meeting the difficulty. ENG INEER’S "REPORT. The Engineer (Mi:, D. Watson) reported as under: — Most of the work in hand during the past month has been, practically, general maintenance'. Repairs and renewing, spouting, etc., arc being carried out at the council office, Pohaugiiia roadman’s bouse and the clerk’s and engineer’s residences. The new motor truck /will be to hand about the 20th inst.,

Awaliou Riding. Several slips have been shifted off the road between .Sp'elmau’s bridge and South creek. A fair amount of this class of work has beep necessary during the winter. Mangaone Utidign.— 200 yards of river metal were carted and stacked on the road near tile bridge. Part of the reserve near the bridge has been fenced oiT a s a holding paddock for horses. A start has been made to re-erect a length of fence which had ialleti down and was carted by the council’s teams to build up a subsidence which had occurred ou the Zigzag road. Mangapikopiko Hiding.—Owing to <Jb much water lodging about tlic gravel pit on tlie main road, it was not possible to get any metal. Slips were shifted off Alalton iLilock road and some metal carted to repair if. A fair amount of cleaning up was also done ou Aoi'sewood road.

Pohaugina Hiding.—JJy the use of the large glacier and a fair quantity of river metal carted-, the main road was put in good shape. The roads about the township have been treated in a similar manner, and the usual maintenance work in other parts of Luc riding' attended to. Tanmki .Riding.—-A start has been made with hired teams to cart riverbed metal Lo a dump in the reserve .at Wagslnll’s , J'ord. A good quantity was carted from about Digger’s creek aml spread oil the main road by the permanent roadmen. Umutofi Hiding.—Slips 1 On Limestone hill, Table Flat, have all been cleared off. ' A small amount of reipalTr metal was put 'oh Makiekio road. The permanent surfaceman, in consequence of the continuous wet weather, was engaged most of his time clearing up the roads. general . The treasurer (Mr A. 15. Orgius) reported that rales levied last year and outstanding at the present time amouned to £WO 7s Bd. With regard Li the present year’s rates ,CSJBBd 12s od was outstanding, only £1(50 its TTaving been collected to date. Aeounts amounting to T7Ol 11s Gd were missed . for payment.
