FETLDTNC CLUB’S SECOND VEN-; TURK. SATURDAY AFTERNOON SPORTS The Feilding Amateur Athletic Club again comes before the public, eye in carrying into effect the proposal to hold a Saturday afternoon sports meeting. So popular was the electric light carnival staged on Kowhai Park the other week that there is no doubting the success ol tlifo Club's seneiid vemture. Thef-e afternoon ‘gatherings are fairly general throughout the district at this time of the year and for popularity this pleasant form of outdoor attraction has few rivals. The local Club s gala day has been fixed for Saturday, 26th inst.jConpnencing at 1.30 pan. By kind permission of the Feilding Jockey Club ! the splendid motor parking lawn at the racecourse will be the venue of the meeting and’ already the. tracks for running and cycling and the lawns generally are being prepared for the occasion. The programme is perhaps the most comprehensive vet attempted bv the Club, it including the pcipidarhsjWmt and long distance running events, high and long jumps, hop step and jump, hurdles, walking, ladies and primary and secondary school girls and school-boys’ races, and cycling. There are 23 events in all. Tjiei trophies throughout the programme arc most liberal and these’ should help to attract to . Feilding some of the best-performers on the Coast. Intending competitors to note- that entries close at 5 p.m. on Monday next. In each event there must- be four starters or no second prize l will be awarded; Aftenoon tea and all other refreshments, liquid and solid, may be obtained on the grounds or parties may ’arrange afternoon picnics in the pretty native bush adjoining the parking lawn. The ladies of the Women’s National Refserve have charge of the stall and refreshments, the proceeds being devoted to the funds of the District Nurse Association and the Feilding Branch of the Plunlcet Society-two wortliv causes.
