FOR MOTHERLESS BABES.
ST. BARNABAS’ HOME. ACCOMMODATION REQUIRED, Few people in Wellington know of the fine work which is being done for babies at the St. Barnabas Home for motherless babes at Khandallah. A visit will show a band of happy heal-; ■thy babies, tenderly cared for, and surrounded by affection. The Rev. Fielden Taylor was one of tbe originators of the home and worked hard for its establishment. It is open to motherless and necessitous babies of all denominations from the Wellington province, no difference is made, and no religion is a bar. Tn three years some 60 little ones have passed through the home. Such is the constant demand on its accommodation, however, that the existing old two storied house is hopelessly idndequate for the urgent need of the babies and staff, and it is imperative to find reasonably comfortable quarters for them. A building- on one floor is required, which will meet the needs of the babies, especially in regard to nurseries, playing verandah, -sufficiently large kitchen, suitable bathrooms, lavatory, etc. At present for a bathroom and lavatory they have \that was the butler’s pantry of the old bouse. Tbe sum of £6OOO is urgently required;to build a new home which will supply the pressing need of the little ones. To secure the erection of this tbe “Babies Home Campaign Committee” was formed and has been steadily working for some time. It is composed of Air Frank Hurley (chairman), Mesdames M. Crompton
Smith. S. P. • Andrew. M. Watts, Misses S. A. Cowles, L. B. Greig, Rev. R. G. Finch, Messrs M. Crompton Smith, R. G. C. Ffitch, H. C. Heays, Al. D. Galloway, C. H. Selinson (lion, see.),' H. T. Marshall (organiser). The committee appeals to the people of Wellington and district to assist in finding the money required. It is felt that in this approaching Christmas season, kindly* thoughts will ensure something for these motherless babes. The campaign has already commenced in various country districts and many booklets distributed. Amongst other activities in the city," a Street Day collection lias been arranged for December 10, under the auspices of the Rev. T. bidden Taylor. The committee, would lie grateful to hear from those willing to work in a campaign for such a worthy cause. Donations which will be acknowledged in the press may he sent to the honsecretary, box 729, A\ ellington, or to the office of the organiser, Air H. T. Marshall, 35 Johnston street. 'Wellington. . '
