CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS THE SINGLES CONTEST. 'The Manawatu Bowling Cent re’s annual champion of champions .singles foulest- was played yesterday oil the Terrace End green in a strong -westerly gale, which militated against good bowls. All the clubs in the centre were represented, except Eoxio'i and Eeilding. Last year’s champion. M. J. Suhan, again played for Levin, and entered the final, having drawn the bye in the semi-litml, iwhieh was reached at noon. A surprise of the first round was the defeat- of Eckersley (Manawatu) by Gilbert (l)anncvirke) by two points. Other well-known players eliminated were Dr. Patterson (Pahiatua) and Tantrum (Takaro). First Bound.—Suhan (Levin) 20 v. Spencer (Shannon) Id. Bryan (Northern) 22 v. Skinner (Terrace End) 13. Dr. Mules (Woodville) 19 v. Tan- , trum (Takaro) 14. Hornblow (Eketahuna) won by default from Burne (Fcilding). - Gilbert (Dannevirke) 10 v. EckeiSIcy (Manawatu) 14. Needham (Palmerston) 2S v. Dr. Paler.sou (Pahiatua) 9. ’Second Bound.--Suhan 27 v. Bryan 14. Mules 23 v. Hornblow 18. Needham 2-3 v. Gilbert 11. Semi-final. Needham defeated Mules, 17—15; Suhan, a bye. Final.—Suhan defeated Needham, 10—13.
