UPHELD IN QUADRA CASE. (Aust. and N.Z. Cable). San l'Tancisco, Jan. 1. The United States Circuit Court on-. Monday upheld the conviction of eigjiit defendants in the steamer Quadra case on a charge of violating the Volstead Act and collateral treaties to prevent rum smuggling. 'l'lie. Quadra was owned in British Columbia, and seized here, convictions resulting. The decision sustains the right of the Government to seize vessels suspected of rum-running within. 12 miles of the mainland and in effect declares legal and binding the treaties and agreements between Canada and the United States for the suppression of rum smuggling.
