BRITISH POLITICS
SPECULATIONS " AS TO FUTURE WILL LIBERAL AND LABOUR CO-OPERATE P (Aust. ana N.Z. Cable.) London, Jan. A. The future of political parties has lately been the subject of some specii. lation. The talk that Mr Baldwin must go has fizzled oj.it, but it is recognised that the Coal Commission’s report and action thereon may create a situation of difficulty with seme of his supporters. The Nation and Daily News continue to discuss the question ol cooperation between the Liberal and Labour Parties, based on si truce in the constituencies and possibly a proportionate representation in the Cabinet.
Tile Daily News says it is incredible to think that the parties will continue to indulge in tu tie internecine bickerings on questions not of principle but personality_
'Phe Daily Herald, however, declares that a Liberal-Labour coalition is out of the question. The slightest readiness even to discuss it has split the Labour movement.
The Daily Telegraph’s Parliamentary correspondent .points out that Mr Lloyd George, is installing himself in new offices for the purpose of directing- tile propaganda ol the new Land and Nation League. He considers that sooner or later he will cut himself adrift from, the: official Liberal Party and may eventually attempt to form, a Centre Party. In the meantime he is devoting all his energies to his land campaign.
