MEAT PRODUCERS’ BOARD.
WAR OFFICE CONTRACTS AND .EMPIRE; PREFERENCE
(Per Press Association.) Wellington. July 20.
In the matter of the War Oil'ice contracts and all public meat contracts, the London manager of the New Zealand Meat, Producers’ Board is continually pressing on the authorities the' importance of preference to overseas pa its of the Empire. Some months,,;ign the War Office, in calling for te,riders for a supply of heel for army purposes, amended the conditions of their contract form by asking for quotations for ‘•British Dominions and for South American at the con tractor's, option.” The effect of this alteration was to absolutely cancel any preference to Lhe British Dominions, and the -Aleat Board’s London manage;- made a strong protest against thy. change.
It is now pleasing to note from conditions i.f contracts received by Liu* last mail from London that the War Office has. reverted to the previous custom of asking for quotations only for British Dominion'' meat and South American. Evidently the protest made by the Board’s- London manager has had some effect.
