NOTES AND COMMENTS

Nominations for -the New Zealand Cup, to be decided at the November carnival at Itieearton, close at 8 p.m. to-night.

Lisogne and Euchre will be- prepared for future events by trainer K. Mnrtagh, who also has r l e lvawa and Sunsbot in work at Haweru.

Lochson was bred by Mr G. M. Currie and was sold as a yearling to Mr IV. Ansti.s at -15 guineas. U]> to date tlie son of Grafton Loch has don C 2921 in stake-money. There were three double winners at tho National meeting last week at RiecuiTon—Bull ford, Passim Through and Wassail- —the lastnamed scoring twice in one day. Nominations received by the Wanganui J .C. for its spring meeting are very encouraging. Horses from Auckland and Canterbury are included in the list. S. Reid, the Trentlnim trainer, has broken in the Polyguotus Minona colt. The youngster is not yet two years old, having been foaled to English time, but lie gives promises of growing into a hand some horse. It is reported that Miss Modest, by Monotone —Modesty, owned by Mr W. 0. Ring, of Auckland, has foaled twin fillies to imported alkyrian. The youngsters —a bay and a chestnut respectively —are both strong and healthy. Win. Young, who is now domiciled at Trentham, is to receive Gamecock and Clicquot, owned by Mr C. 0. I • (Rutherford, as additions to his team. Clicquot is an aged mare by Masterpiece—Muinm, and thereiore half sister to All Over, who was by All Red. Both have been accorded u nomination for the Marten Spring meeting which opens next month. It is said that a South Island owner asked A. D. Webster to put a price on Rudiuo last week at Ricearton, wJiieh he did, but the wouldbe buyer thought Hie price out of all reason, and Hie deal tell through. However, as Radiue taler won the Stvx Hurdle Race and paid just on a. score, lie would have been a very cheap investment after all.

.Australian-bred pair,

Malster (by Dill of Portland) and Wallace (by Carbine) have been dead for somo time, both of them claimed winning descendants lust season in Australia. The total sum won by descendants of Malster during his stud career amounts to £275,097, while the sum down to the credit of the progeny of Wallace- is £244,005.

Trentham tracks at present are in a very heavy state, and for some time past fast work beyond a few furlongs sprint up the back of tiie course, has been impossible. Trainers arc up against it in view of Marten and Wanganui meetings next month. The same remark applies to the Feilding track which is very holding at the present time, and fast work is out of the question.
