O'Brien (Wostland) gave notice to ask tile Prime Minister if ho will take siieps to have timber .royalties paid for the upkeep of roads in the districts from which the timber is extracted. Mr J. A. Young (Waikato) intends l\o ask the Prime Minister whether he is aware that Banks are sending large sums of money t(» Australia for investment, and to stntt) whali is being done to prevent this.
Mr J. C. Rollostion (Waitomo) will introduce a question to the Minister of Agriculture asking whether it is his intention to enforce the provisions of the Noxious Weeds Acll. 1908, on Native lands.
Mr D. G. Sullivan (Avon) drew, the attention of the Minister of Justice to the widespread evil of methylated spirit! drinking in New Zealand, and gave notice to ask him what steps he proposes to take to cope with the evil. Mr P. Eraser (Wellington Central) gave notice to ask ilho Minister-in-Charge of the Pen-ions Department whether he will introduce legislation this session to -extend the benefits under I the Act to deserted wives. Tho Prime Minister stated that in all probability a Bill would be brought down, this session in conncction 6, with counties raising loans for works on main highways. a The Minister of Railways said the costi of the British. Railway Commission shortly coming to New South Wales should not exceed £OOOO.
The Minister of Railways said that if the 48-hour week was established there would be a surplus of 1200 men, but it was not proposed tip dispense with these men, as with the ordinary variation of labour in connection with the railways it was expected tihat theso'men would bo absorbed within 12 months. The House continued the Address-in-Reply.
