WORRIES OF AN OUTBACKER
(To the Editor, Star)
Sir,—This question has been worrying electors for 20 years, and wo don't seem to get and "forrider." Anyone that has been living in the Kjng Country knows there is more drinking carried on than in any part of 'New Zealand. I was living in Otorohanga for sonic time and can speak from knowlodge. How can one expect otherwise, with a radius of 50 miles for one trooper to watch over? Moreover, ho is a marked man. Where one case is brought before a J.P., ten are never heard of. What are we farmers to do? Wo toil from sunriso to sunset year in and yoar out; and the only outing we get is on sale days, -when we foregather with our neighbours"! Where aro we to_ gather if the pubs are closed ? Then, again, we are pestered with papers on the subject from both sides. And then the, colossal cheek of the Yankees iu sondiug paid lecturers to New Zealand. lam tired of this pointing to the States as a model for us to copy from. At the present time the States- are seething with discontent. Then again wo have the Labour members of Parliament at us. What good are they to us? Let us hope tho question of Prohibition will bo sot at rest for all time at the next election, so that we can get down to legitimate business for the future.— I am etc., Old Colonial. Kimbolton, 11/11/22.
