UNEMPLOYED TEACHERS.
Most scare stories get into circulation because the, teller of tho tale either does not or will not take the trouble to verify the statements. So it is with the report that came out of the Secondary Teachers' Conference that tho unemployed trouble was contributed to by a number of teachers, especially in Wellington. The teller of that tale could easily have got the facts, because tho conference sat in the Empire City, the Education Board of which right promptly denied the report as a mere rumour, apparently based upon the one case.. And that case is a common happening—always has hecn with students at tho Teachers' Training College. Tho graduates of that Collego who are not employed are not in work because of the lack of positions, but simply and solely becauso they will not go into tho country. It is a case once more of city attractions. . There are still moro calls for certificated teachers than tho supply can fill. And that suggests the larger question pertaining to the problem of unemployment: How many of tho unemployed, especially in tho ci+ics, are men and women who are picking and choosing their jobs? The. city papers show in their Wanted columns that thero is still plenty of domestic and , other work for girls and women—but it is office jobs, not work in homes, that these city folks desire. And yet they subscribe themselves as unemployed.
