SEAMEN'S WAGES.

'i» (Per Press Association.) Auckland, May 22. The Arbitration Court is occupied with the seamen's dispute. Mr. Smith, outlining the ease for the employers, said the basic wage for seamen and trimmers was £ls 7s _ per month, an increase of seven guineas per month. Overtime was increased from Is 3d and Is 6d to 2s 9d an hour, and as a result of the eighthour day and other concessions, overtime payments wero nearly thrice as much as in 1914. Mr Smith said tho need for a reduction in working costs was very urgent, and this could be brought about only by an early substantial redcution of wages ashore and afloat.
