THE SYDNEY TOURNAMENT. SUCCESS OF NEW ZEALANDERS. (Aust.-N.Z Cable Association.) (By Electric Telcyapn.—Copyright i Sydney, April 27. The tenuis tournament was continued in fine weather. Tile courts were in excellent condition, despite early morning rain. The New Zoalandors’ play showed fuTthcr improvement, Miss Cui'tis making better use of drier courts. Miss Paton heat Miss Kendall, 5—7, 6—4, 10—8. This was a fairly even match. Miss Paton led s—l to the last game, which seesawed to the end, the New Zealander winning, by superior placing. Miss Mountain beat Miss Wellwood 6—3, 6—4. This was a vigorous game, tho former playing with greater precision. Miss Curtis beat Miss Lister, 6—3, 4—6, 6—4. A feature of Miss Curtis’s play was her excellent vollying and keeping an accurate length. ' Miss Boyd beat Miss MacFarlane, 6—3, 10—12, 6—l. The New Zealander emerged from her shell in the socond set, displaying brilliant form, especially driving. In the doubles Misses Lister and Boyd beat Misses Patton and Wellwood, 6—l, 6—4. Tho winners were the superior pair, their accuracy in vollying being the chief factor in victory. Misses Curtis and MacFarlane beat Misses Mountain and Rcndall, 6—l, 2—6, 6—2. The New Zealanders dovetailed excellently, Miss Curtis showing keen discrimination in measuring her shots. Improved condition of tho courts enabled her to make use of her pace. Her overhead work was good; Miss MacFarlane was always on the go, and effectively employed a useful backhand stroke." The New Zealanders play again bn Monday.
