SEETHING WITH UNREST.

THE MIDDLE EAST A POWDER MAGAZINE. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Aust.-N.Z. Cable Association.) (Received* June 11, 9.5 a.m.) London, June 10. The Times, commenting on the Bolshevist occupation of Resht, infers that the Red* intend to make a definite move on Teheran. The small British force at Resht has withdrawn 52 miles, and is now placed in a position at Menjil Pass, guarding the Teheran road. The other British troops that are scattered ineffectively in North Persia probably will be endangered. The whole position is obscure, owing to tho lack of official inj formation. But apparently there is nothing to prevent Persia falling an | easy prey to the Bolshevist. The Government is weak, and honey com bed with 'intrigue. Starosselesky's Cossack division. which is quartered 'in Teheran, is now anti-British "and deeply tainted with Bolshevism. Kutchik Khan, a notorious freebooter and leader of Persian revolutionaries, has become head of the Provisional Government formed at Resht, and will probably encourage the Red advance on Teheran. The British Government has still failed to define its policy in Persia, though its interests are immediately threatened. Simultaneously a dangerous position is developing in Asia Minor, owing to the increasing co-operation between the Turks and the Bolshevists. Paris, June 10. French observers say that the effort to create an official army capable of opposing the combination of the Natinalists and Reds has failed in Turkey. the Constantinople Government signs the Peace Treaty, the Allies must depend on the Greeks to enforce it. The Daily News fears that a new war on a large scale is beginning. General Wrangle's offensive, aiming to link up with the Poles, will create a front of 1000 miles. It will be like throwing a lighted match into a powder magazine, for the Middle East is seething with unrest, eve lias far as the. borders -of India.
