MR. GUTHRIE IN THE NORTH.
The future possibilities of the North, especially the swamp lands which ho had seen, greatly impressed tho Minister for Lands, the Hon. H. D. Guthrie. Reviewing his trip, he states that in order to meet the heavy burden imposed by war expenditure, tho productivity of tho land would have to be increased, and it would be his aim to assist settlers in every way. The underlying principles of his policy would be to prohibit undue aggregation of land, to stop the alienation of land, and, by every means in his power, prevent speculation.
