CURIOSITY CONSCRIPTION
[TO TilK HDITOB.J
Sir,—-The following is a conundrum which is exercising the minds of the loyal section of the community hero, and it seems to lie more than anyone can crack—can you ?
A young man was called up for military service. He went to camp, and in something like two months had practically finished his training. He returned on his final leave, when he was congratulated on his military and general bearing. The time for hie return to camp, however, evidently nuisf have escaped his memory; and somtweeks later he was seen returning— under convoy of a sergeant-major and a constable. - He is next seen in mufti—his uniform having been tnken from him— flnshiiiK hie discharge among his special chums, no doubt explaining how ho managed to do the trick, so that they might do likewise and still act employment at rates vory much better than military pay.—T am. etc., ENQUJP.EI?. Ilalcombe, L'G/6/17.
