General Botha, who has been on a yifcib to General Smuts, reports that, in addition to the archiousncss of operating in the almost impenetrable forests, sickness had been raiupan-t among man and beast. The distances traversed .have been enormous. The Germans have been admirably led, and they are iine fighters. Their machinegun detachments are worthy of respect. Notwithstanding the obstacles, our progress has been phenomenal."
