SOUTHERN GRAIN MARKETS
Ghristchurch, January 29. [ A fair quantity of wheat is offering, mostly from early ripened crops, therefore light in grain. However, some samples aro fairly plump, considering the season. The sales effected were chiefly at 5s to Gs 2d, and, in odd cases, a little more was paid. Millers aro not anxious to begin to stock up on account of the strong position held by Australian wheat. The flour market is very firm. Oats are coming on the market. Gartons are selling up to os 3d at country stations. Southland merchants are quoting oats at 3s f.o'.b. Bluff, sacks in, delivery up to tho end of December next, the crop this year heing very heavy. Ono sale of oatsheaf chaff made £5, also one of £4 15s, at country stations. . FEILDING SALES. Dalgety and Co. report having a very good entry of sheep and cattle at their Feilding sale on Friday: JDull shorn lambs to 9s 6d, small shorn lambs to lis 9«l, shorn wether lambs to 12s lid, shorn ewo lambs 13s, purebred Romney ewe lambs 18s 6d, do. rani lambs 30s, 2-tooth to f.m. ewes 19s 3d tq 2|js, aged ewes to Ifis, fat and forward ewes 10s 6d, 2-tooth ewes 26s 6d, 4-tooth owes 26s 7d, 4 and syear ewes 24s to 25s 6d i £ a.nd 5-year p.b. Romney ewes 31s, small woolly lambs to 10s 6d, medium woolly lamlis to lis 7d, mfEocl aged Romney tains 235, yearling heifer's £2, JB--nionths do. £*3 Os Cd, dairy heifers to £5 Is, cows and calves to £0 10s, empty cows in fair order £6 15s, liglit fat cows to £7 10s. 8-34-year steeia i £8 17s to £9 12s, 3J-year bullocks £11 I to £11 12s.
