MEAT PACKERS COMPLAIN,

The meat packers complain that the British War Office is turning. doAvn all Australian tenders for tinned meats Avithout giving any reason, while placing huge orders with Argentine and United States packers, at prices higher than the Australians are willing to accept. The packers point out that as they aro debarred from sending meat outside the British Empire, unless the position quickly alters they will be compelled to close down. THE SUEVIC ON FIRE. A firo in the lower hold of the s.s. Suevic, lying at the Avharf, did slight damage. The facts indicate that the fire ivas the work of an incendiarist. WOMEN POLICE. The. Government is appointing tAvo policewomen, chiefly for the protection of girls and Avomen. If their services are satisfactory, further appointments Avill be made. QUEENSLAND'S NEAV MINISTRY. As a result of a conference betAveen the Government and meat importers, the price of meat locally has been reduced. Exports for the time being are restricted. When the present contract to supply tho Imperial authorities is.completed, a revised scale of prices Avill be submitted.
